Ontinyent and Fontanars are located in one of the most beautiful corners of Valencia, known as the Tuscany of Valencia. With a drier climate than the coast, a little altitude and a fertile landscape, it is home to some of Spains finest organic wines and is one of the premier wine tourism destinations in the Community of Valencia. Here you will find unique varieties, wines still picked by hand, such as the Monastrell grape and even some wines aged in clay amphora pots, the way wine was made before oak barrels became commonplace. In the 16h century, before vine rot plagued Europe's vines, wines from the Valencia and Alicante region were considered the best in Europe, with Shakepeares Kings requesting a glass of "Alicant".
