Ontinyent is gravel mecca and the perfect playground and training environment for gravel cyclists looking for something different to Girona and Mallorca. (We are biased, but think it's better - more epic, certainly more mountains and vineyards.) Our Ontinyent neighbour (pro Sofia Rodríguez),was the Spanish National Gravel champion in 2024, 3rd in 2025 and Ciclocross champion in 2025) trains here year round.

Gravel Events - a taste of the riding we enjoy year round. Graval.cc A 4 stage event - based around the routes nead the following host towns, all of which we visit on out and back rides from Ontinyent in October 2025. The route visits the Benicadell range and Bocairent mountains, literally on our doorstep with trails only 1km away.

The western part of the route heads towards Ayora and Almansa, into Albacete - that we ride to heading West beyond Fontanars and the Tuscany of Valencia and its amazing rolling gravel through the organic Monastrell vineyards.
It passes north of us, into the Sierra Enguerra, home to the mountain village Navalon - one of favourite places to ride road, gravel and MTB - it's a real play ground.
Head east and it takes you towards Barx. We ride this way via Xativa or the flatter routes of the Vall d'Albaida. Less challenging riding in the valleys is contrasted by difficult climbs over the last mountains before the coast. It's also fabulous road riding here and another of our regular routes.

Camino el Sol routes

This an interesting bikepacking route, the best of which we ride on and outback day rides from Ontinyent. The route serves as something of a tease, as it does cover some fantastic riding including Font Freda, gravel to Villalonga, Via Verde Alcoy for example, but it does keep it simple and avoids perhaps some of the more challenging and epic sections, that reward the best views and thrilling riding the area has to offer.

Camino de Santiago del Levante The camino passes by us, as it winds its way from Valencia to Toledo and onto Santiago after merging with the southern camino.

We ride much of the terrain found on stages 2 - 6 on a regular routes and stages 1-10 on longer trips from our base in Ontinyent, staying away for perhaps a night.

The Gr7 route passes through Ontinyent a kilometre or so from our casa.
There are hundreds of km's of adjoining trails too. We have spent 7 years exploring trails less than 15km away and still keep finding new ones. Some are walking, some for MTB and many suitable for gravelling.
