Quick summary:
for large groups of (20-40 cyclists) Calpe offers large beach front hotels with evening buffet dining experience and plenty of local bars and cafes.
Riding summary: getting in and out of Calpe to the best routes inland is somewhat challenging, especially for cyclists not regularly riding more than 60-80km. Stronger riders have access to some great riding, although route and climb variation is still somewhat limited. Longer or repeat visits will usually mean riding the same routes and mountains.

Smaller groups, less strong cyclists and those that have stayed in Denia and Calpe, but like new climbs should consider staying inland, as it really opens the riding options.
Calpe - Local Knowledge

Airport transfers are approximately 55mins from Alicante to the Sol y Mar in Calpe and 90mins from Valencia
For most cyclists a stay in Calpe will mean centering the riding and routes around the climbs near to the coast. The most popular climbs are probably the Coll de rates, Vall D'ebo and the Guadalest valley. The closest 1000m (summit) mountain to the coast is Port de Tudons.

We avoid the N332 out of Calpe. It is a busy and dangerous road, especially coming out of Calpe heading north and near Gata de Gorgos

The most popular route out of Calpe is via Benissa, which crosses over the motorway towards Xalo and the better riding. Many routes bring you back this way too

The riding gets better, with less traffic and more variety as you head further inland. West of Xalo an Pego towards Gorga and Planes for example

Going south to access the Callosa valley, Tudons from the south and Finestrat area, is via the N-332 or adjacent resort roads. The roads are flatter, but busy with faster moving vehicles and cyclists need to be alert.
